Assets
Assets are the physical or logical entities that ModularIoT monitors.
What is an Asset?
An asset represents something valuable that you want to track and monitor:
- Vehicles - Cars, trucks, trailers, equipment
- Equipment - Generators, compressors, tools
- Containers - Shipping containers, cargo
- Infrastructure - Facilities, stations, sites
Assets vs Devices
Devices are hardware that produces telemetry (GPS trackers, sensors).
Assets are the things being monitored (vehicles, equipment).
A vehicle (asset) might have multiple devices attached: a GPS tracker, an OBD reader, and a temperature sensor.
Asset Properties
- Identity - Unique identifier and name
- Type - Classification for grouping and rules
- Ownership - Tenant and organizational assignment
- Metadata - Additional attributes (make, model, year)
Asset Lifecycle
Assets are:
- Registered - Added to the platform
- Associated - Linked to monitoring devices
- Monitored - Receiving telemetry
- Retired - Removed from active monitoring
