Assets

Assets are the physical or logical entities that ModularIoT monitors.

What is an Asset?

An asset represents something valuable that you want to track and monitor:

  • Vehicles - Cars, trucks, trailers, equipment
  • Equipment - Generators, compressors, tools
  • Containers - Shipping containers, cargo
  • Infrastructure - Facilities, stations, sites

Assets vs Devices

Devices are hardware that produces telemetry (GPS trackers, sensors).

Assets are the things being monitored (vehicles, equipment).

A vehicle (asset) might have multiple devices attached: a GPS tracker, an OBD reader, and a temperature sensor.

Asset Properties

  • Identity - Unique identifier and name
  • Type - Classification for grouping and rules
  • Ownership - Tenant and organizational assignment
  • Metadata - Additional attributes (make, model, year)

Asset Lifecycle

Assets are:

  1. Registered - Added to the platform
  2. Associated - Linked to monitoring devices
  3. Monitored - Receiving telemetry
  4. Retired - Removed from active monitoring
